Elderly-tracking System

Project Description

In elderly care centers, one aged care worker usually looks after more than 20 seniors in a day. As a result, this may lead to low quality of caring for an elderly. Sometimes, elderly may leave the care center without being noticed by care workers. This tracking system can notify care workers when an elderly left the safety zone and show his / her current location.

Elderly homes provide services for elderly aged 65 or above with poor health or physical / mental disability. Aged care workers help elderly with regular activities, like dressing, washing, eating, etc, and also chat with them for emotional support.

  • aging population

  • shortage of care workers

  • heavy workload

  • irregular and long work hours

  • stressful working environment

Early Design

Sketches and Process diagram

Under heavy workloads and stressful environment in elderly homes, a simple and easy-to-use tracking app is designed for care workers. This app would only send notifications to the care workers when there is an elderly leaving safety zone and show the real time location of elderly afterwards.

Design Mock Up

How to set safety zone in tracking app?

Original

User have to input the latitude and longitude of each point of the safety area. However, this input method made the target users confused.

Redesign

I designed and implemented a functional drag-and-drop feature for users to freely draw the safety area on the map. Click to view demo video.
